i never really noticed how slow bt3 starts up when its on battery since im usually always plugged in. but yesturday it sat at "Serial:8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 4 ports, IRQ sharing enabled" for about 5 minutes before it continued to boot. since then i tried booting from the HD install and my usb drive install and they both do the same thing. i cant really say much more than that.

Do you have an Intel Processor, if so, chances it's the Intel Speed Stepping technology slowing down your processor to conserve energy.

i had the same pb with bt2 and my dv6146

... try to boot via

boot : bt irqpoll for bt2

or higlight the mode in the bt3 menu . hit tab... add irqpoll ... hit enter
