I have just used nmap to scan my ip for open ports and it says that the following ports are open.
23
53
80
Should i be worried or is this just normal?
Thanks walls

Perhaps you should:
1) Investigate what services are associated with those ports.
2) Attempt to connect to those ports with the proper clients/services once you know what they are.
3) Decide how to proceed based on what you learn.

I just when onto http://whatsmyip.org/ then used this command in nmap.
nmap -A -v MYIPHERE
Then it tells me that those ports are open.

Congratulations!
If you did -A when you should be able to answer spankdidly's question.
To resolve your open port issue please re-read my previous post and add:
4) Learn what nmap is for and what the switches you used tell it to do.
5) Take an internetworking 101 course or do some reading online to understand what you get when you use whatismyip.org

...and for Pete's sake, close port 53. I bet if you were to put wireshark on you'd a good bit of data going on port 53.

Well i have just seen if port 53 is open with shields up and it says its closed so, i am guessing that because i am scanning my ip and i am on the inside these ports are open to me but not the rest of internet.

Then you might want to read up on how Router's work with PAT (Port Address Translation) and NAT (Network Address Translation). The data has to come in somehow.

But just for now if shields up says that port 53 is shut is it most likely to be?
All i wanted to do was make sure that i had no open ports thats all.

Streaker, I thought you sent it in telepathically? And Nat and Pat was just a conspiracy?

Ya Gibson is a security genius and ShieldsUp is VERY trustworthy and up-to-date software, after all it's not like it's from the 1990s

Oh no someone's being telepathetic (http://forums.remote-exploit.org/showthread.php?t=10084&highlight=telepathetic) again :D

Well, as you know, NAT is tied in very closely with PAT, as in the PAT from Southern Florida, if you know what I mean, nudge nudge, wink wink.

The nudge nudge and the wink wink did nothing for me, Neither did google. LOL.
