I'm having issues with my wireless and after tons of reading Im not to sure where to go.

with wireless assistant, I am able to see various AP in my area.

but I cannot get my wireless to work with any other tools.

its recognized at wlan0

but I don't see any 'ath0' that I keep seeing pop-up in many threads.

Sorry for such a noob question.

Did you try the wiki for compatability?
http://backtrack.offensive-security.com/index.php/HCL:Wireless
I would also suggest you use the cli instead of wireless assistant, it is garbage at best. For the commands try
http://wirelessdefence.org/Contents/LinuxWirelessCommands.htm
good luck

its built in, and not listed on the HCL:wireless. The HCL does list this laptop to work without parameters. I assume since its able to see networks with the wireless assistant its working.

I'll try going through some of those commands to see if i can get it going.

You should be able to use either the dmesg or lspci commands to determine what type of card you have. If you find that it is still not listed on the wiki it would be great if you could add that info for others. :)
