Hey there,
Some time ago, I installed Backtrack to my usb stick and tried to boot. Cause it didn't work, I put it beside and forgot about it.
Now I found the stick again and wondered why I actually can't boot from my stick. I downloaded the cd version, burnt in on a cd and everything is working great.
I took I picture of the output that backtrack gives my, when I try starting from usb
Here the link:

Did I do something wrong? Well, of course I did, otherwise it would work, but what's wrong?

Did you check that you have the correct checksums for the downloaded files? Also you should check that you have copied everything correctly to the usb, there are several good tutorials on this on the forum.

What are the checksums of a file?

It is an algorithm-based method for verifying the integrity of different files. It is mostly used to check whether errors have occurred during the actual download process of them.

The correct MD5 and SHA hashes for the ~946 MB USB version of BT3b are:

MD5: bd0d8f507502787184b187f5a39288df
SHA: 853b80a77e3881e8084c797ba55077ead15f84ae

The tutorial should have had you run a script to make it possible to boot backtrack from the USB. I think it was called either bootinst.sh or bootinst.bat

Once you get that working I recommend setting up persistent changes.

Okey I already wondered what this MD5 is for. Now I know :-)
To be honest I didn't check this, but I really don't think that the file was flawed.
I haven't got the original file anymore (only unpacked) but I think the files are okey!
Actually it should not be that difficult to install this.
Copy and run the ./boostinst.sh in the boot directory.
That's what I did.

Problem solved!!, I took out the original hdd, then boot from usb. it works.
haven't figured out why.

Is it possible that you did not change the boot order in your computer to boot from a usb device first?

No that's not possible.
Either Zergun or archangel.amael didn't read properly:
