If anyone is well versed in the boot process, I am willing to work to see if this is an easy fix or not.

I haven't gotten to the why yet, but I got mine to boot after this error by specifying the root partition during bootup. At the lilo prompt, enter "BackTrack root=/dev/hda3". Mine booted up after that. You will still have to edit your config to make that permanent if that works.

Hey guys,
pretty excited about the release of Backtrack 3 final, congratulations!
I downloaded the vmware version of backtrack 3, and when i launch the virtual machine i get this error:
RAMDISL: Couldnt find valid RAM disk image starting at 0
VFS: Cannot open root device "803" or unknown-block(8,3)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknow-block(8,3)
i tried the following options:
root=hda1
root=hda2
root=scsi
but none works, anyone had the same problem?
thanks in advance,
regards,
