Howdy to the BT community ;) ,

It's great news all round that BT3 has finally be released. One slight problem for myself however.

I have a HP Pavilion DV6552ea and when Back|Track 3 loads to it's list of boot options at which point I will select the first in the list (KDE) it will proceed to a blank screen stating it is loading the Kernel. OK. That's normal. But then however, the screen will return to a blank state (after the series of ".......................") at which point it should post the BT logon screen (where you have the option of "startx" command etc.

The odd thing is, is that this screen fails to appear on the screen UNLESS I press the power button.....

Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, is it a problem with the laptop model, or is there a work-around?

Thanks for your time.

Try using KDE mode and adding acpi=off at the boot menu. I have a hp dv6406 and that worked for me.

could someone please explain this a little bit more? i tried adding it in several ways but could not pass from a blackscreen (both KDE and Flux)
I have an HP DV6646us and using BT3-final.
Thanks!

I am having this same issue. I've also checked the USB drive. It boots in 2 different versions of Toughbooks.

This seems to be related to HP machines. This is the only way I can get BT3 to load, along with AC power plugged in. Once it's up and running I can disconnect the AC and run off battery power.

I am also having this problem, when I boot backtrack 3 it goes to a blank screen. Pressing the power button fixes this but it then stalls at Floppy drive(s) command. I have read that adding the acpi=off command should fix this, but when I add the command I once again get a blank screen. If I press the power button as before it just turns my laptop off completely. I am running on a hp dv2000 with a amd turion 64 x2 TL-60. Also, BT2 boots perfectly fine. If anyone has a fix for this it would be great.

EDIT** Ok scratch that found out I needed to add "acpi=off noapic" in vesa kde mode to get it to work, working great now!

Ok, so I got my laptop working with the cheat described in my previous post. But my problem is that I was using the cd version when I did this. Now I have installed BT 3 to my HDD and was wondering how I can make this change permanent. Mainly because now when I try to dual boot I get the same problem when it starts loading, but since there is now backsplash on the HDD install I can no longer add these cheats....Any help greatly appreciated!
