Hi to all! I've installed BT3 Final with the shell method.
I noted that:
There is no Installer;
Javascript is not work on Internet;
Where are Slapt-get and Gslapt?
These things were present in beta version.
Why not in the final version?

Sorry for my english but I am Italian :D

There is no Installer
This has been covered numerous times on the forum already. It is left out on purpose

Javascript is not work on Internet
This is because the NoScript firefox addon is by default installed and enabled for added security.

Where are Slapt-get and Gslapt?
You can easily install slapt-get through Fasttrack, and if you need the GUI frontend, Gslapt, it should not be hard to add manually.

yes I agree, things are missing but I haven't seen any explanations as to why so many things were left off the final. Skype was missing but I managed to install that despite being a bungling newbie. There was no flash player in firefox either but I managed to get that in too. Talk about climbing a steep hill...

Maybe their thinking was that Skype and a Flash player has nothing to do with Penetration testing. If you think installing those two things are a steep hill, just using the Tools on BT3 is probably gonna appear to be the Matterhorn.

Good luck with using the rest of the tools in BT3 if you think this was hard :eek:

You ADDED those those? Flash is exactly the kind of junk I usually have to delete off of my machines.

Kudos to the the BT3 creators for leaving crap off, and keeping to the concept of a distribution of core working PT tools, and leaving the shiny and useless bits off.

BackTrack is meant to be a penetration testing live CD/USB install. It is not designed to be a desktop replacement; therefore, Skype, Open Office, etc., all the other bloated unneccesary programs are not included on purpose. Sure, you can install them if you want, but for the objectives of this distro, it would defeat the purpose.
