Hello all
I am using BT3f installed on my eee pc, and compiz does work, but some parts of it are a bit flaky. Firstly, during the splash screen, the words are torn and unreadable. Then, once X starts up, everything is torn for 15-20 seconds. Most parts of compiz work, although there are ones that tend to crash everything, and ones that dont seem to work at all. All animations tend to run a bit choppy, but they work. Blur and reflection do not seem to do anything, and when I enable 3D windows, or any of the extras that put something inside the cube, it seems to crash everything. The tears come back, and I must uncheck the box, Log out, and startx again to get rid of the tears. Is this a software/configuration problem or hardware? I assume that in this little thing there is only a crappy intel gfx card, but I cannot find any official specs on it.

I had this problem and solved it using emerald as the windows manager, yo can select it from the compiz icon or with the command "compiz --replace emerald"

Thanks for the quick replies. Unfortunatley they did not work. Actually, when I tried so, it tore, and compiz would not work afterwards, even when I restarted. I had to boot onto a live disc, and I copied a good xorg.conf and re-extracted cubez.lzm back to the harddrive, so I'm back to square 1 again.

Have you tried going to Configure-Desktop --> Set-Number-of-Desktops?

since you have just the 4 virtual desktops, why not just remove it from the panel all together and use other parts of compiz? if the cube works, thats great, I also use the options that replicate expose and spaces on Mac OS X leopard. Expo is like spaces(weird...), where you can hit Super + E or put your mouse in the top left corner of the screen, and it will show a preview of all 4 desktops at once. Scale windows is like expose, and when applied, you can use shift+alt+up or put your mouse in the top right corner of the screen(with this turned on, it is possible to get large windows to shift up and down a little bit so you can click on buttons that are normally out of reach on such a tiny screen!)
