Toshiba Satellite A15-S5837 help

I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S5837 laptop and when I boot up backtrack it takes me to where you chose what mode to load up.
After that the screen just turns black.
It works on my desktop so I don't know what is wrong.
Can someone help me fix this problem.
