Hi everyone. I am new to this forums and I start with a noob question:
Is the D-Link DWL-G650 card incompatible with the monitor mode?

When i try to load Kismet from the KDE menu it start and then close.

I have tried to load it by writting in the console the configuration of my card and it also give an error. And i have also tried to change it to monitor mode with the iwconfig command but i am not archieving any results.

Can anyone help me?
Should I buy another card?

Thanks for reading and sorry for my bad english :)

I finally made up how to set the card into monitor mode, so i will just post it in case someone has the same problem:
1-First start airmon-ng, where you will see 2 interfaces: wifi0 and ath0. None of them can be set to monitor mode.
2-Write "airmon-ng start wifi0" this will start a VAP called ath1 that will be set in monitor mode.
3-To use this interface in Kismet: just open the console and write "kismet start ath1"

Sorry for my english, I hope this could help someone.

Jimbo,

I do that with the same card and Kismet but Kismet only runs for a short bit (up to 3 minutes max) then stops collecting info.

Anybody have a clue why this occurs? I also use kismet.conf but after much googling.....don't find clear kismet.conf recommendations for this card.

The aircrack programs work better than kismet....not sure why the poor kismet performance.

piccolo,

Why not just use airodump-ng instead of Kismet? Then, you dont need another card.

Ok here is the thing my card is not being seen by the system, when I try to use VMware and install it under windows it is only seeing the bridged connections which is the Ethernet. Now when I boot my PC from BT2 it is not start with the cardbus support, i see a message saying something like "use backtrack no pcmcia boot parameter or something like that."

I don't have to use kismet, just whatever i can do for the card to be seen, and allow packet injection, monitoring mode and all the other fun stuff.

I just start kismet via the icon without doing any commands and it works fine for me on both of my cards.
