I'm sure most of you have heard of MySpace and I'm also sure that you probably have heard some interesting music on there. Sadly enough not all off the music on MySpace is available for download. We'll here's a guide that will help you overcome that.

Step #1
Find a song you are interested in on the Artist's page. Let this page fully load, if there is a song that automatically plays. Just stop it for right now. Once the page that your song is listed on is fully loaded.

Step #2
Open Wireshark and begin to capture on your selected interface. With Wireshark now running, go back to MySpace page.

Step #3
Press play to begin playing song of your choosing. Let this play in it's entirety and the once it is done playing. Wait a few seconds and then go back to Wireshark

Step #4
Stop capturing and wait for Wireshark to load collected packets

Step #5
Press [Ctrl]+[f], in the text input box type in, "mp3" Then select the radial botton for "String" Now, select "Packet List" under "Search In" Hit [Enter]

Step #6
Under the "Protocol" column pay attention to the TCP packets. To the right of that look for a 5 digit number that repeats throughout your collected data. Once you have found a that specific 5 digital number.

Step #7
Right click on the packet and select "Follow TCP Stream"

Step #8
In the newly displayed screen. Locate the radial button for "RAW" select this

Step #9
Now in the conversation box. Click on this and you will probably see 2 listings. One of which has a small bytes size and another of larger stature. Select the larger one.

Step #10
Click on [Save As] and name the file yoursong.mp3

That's it enjoy! This also works on imeem.com. Just search for "ashx" instead of "mp3".

(Figured I should add something like this)

well done, this is actually a great tutorial for plenty of other things that wireshark can do. the focused saving of the payloads of the TCP packets can also be used to intercept VoIP telephone conversations, pretty much the same technique.

It seems to me that if my space does not want you to download their music and you do any way that is ilegal. Call me crazy but I do not see what stealing music has any thing to do with penn testing!

There is some value to this thread as a generic Wireshark tutorial.

Hey!

Not sure if you guys know, there are a number of Firefox plugins/add-ons that can download youtube (n other similar website) vids for you. It isn't as much fun as using wireshark, but still may come in handy (For educational purposes ONLY)

Here's one I like:
h77ps://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2390

Cheers!

Hard to use a addon that does not come with BT2.....

In windows youtube videos are easy to capture. Just let the video fully load, then go to Tools>Internet Options> UNDER - Browsing History "Settings">View Files

or by default you can goto C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
Just look for the larger files, rename them with the .flv extension. They will look like "get_video?video_id=3fs088fs08"

Sorry for the M$ talk :D

that was very useful to see how wireshark works, voip capture sounds scary! I might try that on my network while I use skype (will skype have to be used from within BT? or can this capture over the airwaves if I skype from my other laptop over wifi??)

I'd love to see an -=Xploitz=- video on wireshark !

Sorry for the double post, but I am curious of the answer. I know many of yall have done this, so could someone please answer my question.

(That sounded rude. I really didn't mean for it to be rude at all. Sorry if it sounded rude)
