Hi all!

I definitly give it up to get my buildin WLAN card working (AR5007UG - tried ndiswrapper but doens't support monitor mode, tried old vendor driver but didn't work with the tools etc... Mailing list says that there will be support in future - but I guess that can take some time)...

anyway, I want to buy a new WLAN USB Stick - and I want to have it like: "plugin and it works" ..

So it should do the following:
- work 100% with BT (so all that tools with packet injection etc.. work correctly)
- good range
- not _that_ expensive

Are there any suggestions?

I would suggest to buy a PCMCIA card, or to replace miniPCI card in your laptop,
as in the comparison USB cards have poorer performance.
Working with Kismet you see almost no difference, but injection is weak.
I have D-link DWL-G122 ver C1 , and it works, but performance is not very exciting.
The problem is loosing some signal because of laptop USB controller and there is no external antenna.
If USB stick is the only option I'd rather try to find Netgear , but check the version carefully, not all of them are working ( read all the letters twice) .

i have built a simple antenna for my dwlg122c1 like i see in aircrack tuto lol with my c1 , i can got a gain of near 8 db !!!!! for a non regular dimension antenna it's astonishing me

have a look here

http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=cantenna_directional_antenna_with_gain

don't look well, but it's a lazy fonctionnal way to do it lol

Hi!

So you would suggest DWLG122 with this selfmade antenna?

I found it on amazon i.E., 23Euros is not that much...

Do they work in perfect harmony with BT?

Other suggestions?

Thanks

in usb and without antenna(it's just a little trick to enlarge detection of aps) it's i think one of best quality for this price ....

i never had pb with this one but you need to use patched driver for injection they are made by serialmonkey for the rt73 chipset(c1)
but if u can buy pcmcia it's better...........

Are there any laptop pcmcia cards I should prefer?

PCMCIA with an external antenna socket.
Read the post which card to buy ....
also compability lists on aircrack and kismet web pages.
BT has the all drivers included, so all the cards listed there should work.

Hi once again,

did not want to change the topic:

Now I want to buy a PCMCIA. Following cards i am interested in (Quoting from compatibility list):

- Dlink DWL-650+

Special Notes: Enable the drivers via KDE menu or cd /usr/src/drivers/acx100/ && insmod ./acx100.ko

got an error and modified it a bit and it worked. cd /usr/src/drivers/acx100 && insmod ./acx.ko

- Dlink DWL-G650

Notice: To set up into Monitor Mode type:
airmon-ng start wifi0
ifconfig ath1 up
iwconfig ath1 mode Monitor

- Dlink DWL-G650+

Driver : Ndiswrapper

The one with Ndiswrapper won't support monitor mode, I guess.
Did anybody make experiences with the other two cards? DO THEY WORK 100%?

Thanks
Santa

DWL-G650 is a 100%

May still be on sale at Fry's Electronics for $25.

Just one word with DWL-G650 works fine,
but there are different versions.
The new cards sold are versions C2-C4 and are OK,
but if you want to buy a used one check the version. A,B6 and C1 are not working. The version is written on a back of a card close to MAC.

Now I want to buy a PCMCIA. Following cards i am interested in (Quoting from compatibility list):

The D-Link WNA-1330 works great with monitor, injection, etc. I just posted about one tiny bug I found, but it's not a real problem. $39 at Circuit City etc.

The best card you can get right now, hands down, is the Ubiquiti 300mW SRC. $125 via Metrix Communications and comes with a clip-on antenna.

Sincerely,

Beetle

Thank you all!

I bought the USB WLAN Stick now, it works perfektly, out of the box. I just cracked my WEP WLAN network with this Stick, needed only 60.000 packets with aircrack-ptw. Took me only about 10 minutes, collecting packets perhaps 3 minutes.

So thanks for your support and that great distribution... Santa
