Hello Everyone,
I have been looking all over the internet and all over this forum for support. I first search this forum to see what card I should get then i went with the Dlink DWL-G650 tried it for a week or so and it was'nt detected by BT. Next I just got the Netgear WG511T and this is still not working.
What I have done so far;
$ iwconfig (only sees eth0 broadcom bcm43xx which is my built in card)
$ airmon-ng start wifi0 ath1, (again only sees eth0 bcm43xx)
$ iwlist scanning (interface does'nt support scanning
I then took the card out and put it back in and ran dmesg and my last two lines were
bcm43xx: cannot register IRQ18
CS: pcmcia_socket0:cardbus cards are not support
Now this let me to think that Back Track dont support a cardbus pcmcia is this true and any comments on my cards?

Make sure your D-Link is a 650 vice a 650+. This is a big difference.
The Netgear card should work as well.
Both the 650 and the 511T are supported and use the madwifi driver. If neither card is being properly recognized, then you have a bigger problem, which may be laptop-related (a guess).

thats what I am not getting cause the card bus works fine under windows. I am using it to connect right now as we speak. It is just not being picked up under BT, I booted with knoppix and it picked it up fine, I have a HP Pavilino dv1000.

A couple of quick questions:
...double check your pcmcia card model type
...what PC are you using?
That card is readily recognized by BT2....that's why I am asking those two questions.
Please post back.

EDIT: I see the other responses now...missed them for some reason earlier. But, both the cards are atheros chipset I think....that means you have to type "airmon-ng stop ath0" first before typing "airmon-ng start wifi0)" then type "ifconfig ath0 up" then you are in business.
Good luck.

piccolo,
Something is amiss.
My suggestion at this point is to locate another PC. Boot up with the BT2. Then try your two wireless pcmcia cards. Sounds like you have to confirm you have one or two cards that are working. If your cards work in the 2nd PC...guess what....your 1st PC may be out of wack somehow.
Play around with your hardware.
Don't forget to have fun.
Thank me later.
Hope that helps.

Just to add on here, I'm facing a similar problem as well with b|t 2. b|t 2 isn't detecting my WG511T. With dmesg I get the same message: CS: pcmcia_socket0:cardbus cards are not supported.
I thought maybe my card was spoilt because I didn't use it for so long, but after loading b|t v1 again, the power light on my card started blinking during the startup process. So that rules out a faulty card, and the only explanation I can find now is that b|t 2 is causing the problem.
So how can I get my WG511T working under b|t 2? Are there any drivers I have to install? Or any commands I have to enter to activate my PCMCIA card?

I was having that problem for weeks i just borrowed a different laptop from someone and the min i booted it picked up my card, then i run the stop ath0 and start wifi0 command and now I am cooking. Kismet just started up I will testing the others tools and report back. So i would say test on another laptop cause it is not BT, it is hardware prob. I have to get it working took but for now I will enjoy this.. :)
As an alternative you might want to try the DLink DWL-G122 USB Adapter which is illustrated on irongeeks website as being able to support vmware under windows and allow packet injection and everything else. If I get this card and test first and it works I will let you know.

But my WG511T works on the same laptop using b|t v1, but not on b|t v2. So I don't think it's a hardware problem, it's probably a configuration problem with b|t 2.

maybe so but if you figure it out or if any on the forum knows how to tweak the startup code do tell. I am playing around with it on another laptop, but now I have a new problem, when I start kismet , airodump, airplay or even airsnort, the all work for about 4 mins then the stop. Any one has an idea why this is so?

piccolo i have the same laptop HP Pavilion dv1000 and it also doesnt detect ANY of my 3 PCMCIA cards , atheros , linksys , belkin . of course when i placed BT2 in another Laptop they were ALL detected just fine, so it IS the pavilion laptop. i tried nubuntu and it picks it up under the HP latptop. but i dont think the injection is working at all that well. i miss BT2 i want it but my laptop is teh sux
btw: sorry for bringing up an old thread was doing a search and i found he had the same problem as i ...ever find out how to fix it?

Hello.
I have a similar problerm. I have a Gateway MX7515. BT2 has pci issues with the cardbus(32-bit) and disables the cardbus, but if I plug in a SMC 2532W-B (16-bit) it works fine.
As I multiboot, if I try pclinuxos2007, it has no pci issues with cardbus and the ubiquiti SRC cardbus card works perfectly. I tried a friends dell inspiron 600 and BT2 with the ubiquiti, and that also works prefectly so it would seem there are some issues with some cardbus systems.
Here is my dmesg etc. showing the issues and also the dmesg etc. with pclinuxos2007 showing the difference. I hope this helps and hope a solution can be found.
Regards...Martin
As it's too long to post here, I will provide a link
Great...I can't provide a link either as I don't have 15 posts - so much for that - someone who can can private message me and they can post the link for me

Just tried BT1 - cardbus works and the ubiquiti SRC also
04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
Linux slax 2.6.15.6 #1 SMP Fri Mar 24 16:46:23 GMT 2006 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux
Follow-up:- "bt irqpoll" fixes the problem. The cardbus works, the card is identified and kismet & airsnort works fine and pulls AP's
