I picked up a WG111 v2 s/n 1ac171bb0b2c5 the other day.
It channel hops and gathers packets with Kismet.
However, I have not been able to get BT or any other Linux I've
tried to network with it, even after cycling power and rebooting.

How are you trying to connect to the internet:
Wireless Assistant?
command line interface?

I have a netgear wg111v2 and it does NOT connect to the internet. Baxter should be able to confirm this. It has the R8187 chipset as well. Good luck if you can get online with it, cause I've tried everything I can think of and still no dice.

All those who have had problems with the WG111v2 please update the Wiki so that we know it doesn't work. More than one report is always welcome.

After some tribulations I finally got BT2 installed triple boot
on my HP Pavillion N5420.
The wg111 actually works with the wireless assistant.
Network access seems somewhat slow but that may
be the result of full speed instead of high speed USB.
After a few failed attempts at getting multiboot to work
according to directions on the forum, I tried Fedora 7
on the laptop. I didn't like that, so I once again installed BT2
on the HP, this time typing in /dev/hda5 for the boot loader.
This left Fedora's grub on the MBR.
This eventually allowed me to get back to the Ubuntu 5.10
installed on hda3 (which does Kismet with Orinoco!). Then I
modified Ubuntu's Grub to include BT2.
May I suggest you yse Ubuntu's grub and grub installation on
the next BT install. If my experiences with Linux lilo are typical
there is no wonder why so many distros have gone to grub.
