Hello,
it's really a great news!
This distribution is for me one of the best available today on the security field.
Keep this way.
I'm very new with linux, but if I can help, don't hesitate.

What will happen with the BT2 forum. Will there still be threads related to BT2 or will the two be merged into one.

Yipee! I just recently ran into a problem where I needed X 7.2, and HAL along with dbus. I was about to chuck this BT2 hd install, but decided to check and see if there was any news about BT3. I am glad that I checked!

Oh how I love BT, but I really do wish there was a normal Desktop Installation like Protech. I haven't really used BT lately anymore since I got most of the programs running under normal ubuntu but I would love to try the new BT3.

A generic L2TP and/or PPTP VPN client would be good. I don't think BT2 natively ships with one?
//Also a few 'handy' files for use when faced with a windows box - nc, vnchooks, 2k/2003 RK etc for the odd 'ethical' backdoor and util's to run on WIndows - it was a pain trying to find the version of vnc.hooks, vnc.exe etc for cli dll injection that supported the old remote registry password config.
It's not hard to get most of these manually but it may be a nice touch to have them ship in a convenient folder?

when will the Feature Request thread for BT3 appear ? I bet alot of people have ideas for the new project...
Personally, i think you should go "all out" this time and make it a DVD-Image flooded with all the programs and tools you want.. an easy update function might be useful as well , i see that slapt-get causes some problems from time to time so adding a few update scripts might be a good idea ?

my turn :
i want(if possible) a stripped version without kde , only command line one
must fit in a 256 MO or a 512 MO
could be done by hand, but not cleanly....
that could be useful for testers i think to get bt and only bt without gui crap....
i hope a kernel upgrade for SMP support, and a lzm module repository
the DVD is on the way i saw it somewhere.....
and we also wait the bugfixes reliz....
MIAM... can't wait...

While this (http://forums.remote-exploit.org/forumdisplay.php?f=20) subforum is underneath the "BT2 Final" title, you can safely assume that its use for BT3 requests is ok as well.

I love Backtrack 2 and my only wants for BT3 would be better support for my sound (Still no audio on my tx1120us notebook from HP), maybe a better touchscreen calibration method. Most of the other things I have been able to resolve with research but the audio is kicking my arse.
Apparently there are scads of people using the tx1000 series notebook and it's hit and miss on the audio. I hear the 2.6.22 kernel fixes it, so that might do the job.
Anyway, keep up the good work and thanks for all of your effort.

Could not find a BT3 feature request but.....
1. I hope BT3 includes the zydas 1211 driver
and
2. I hope BT3 Live CD has a front end display recognition capability. BT2 does not recognize my Intel i810 1024x768 display and my PC suffers from the critical Ubuntu bug where the xorg.conf after boot has to be edited. Refer to: Ubuntu bug 3731.
I would like to use the Live CD in many cases but can not because of the display issue.....and I am not an expert on remastering or restructuring the Live CD.
I solved both issues on an installed BT2 but want to use and introduce to many friends the BT capability via the Live CD.....as well as use the Live CD myself on different PCs.
Thanks,
Alacrity

You are absolutely correct.......I had been operating with an installed version of BT and remembered incorrectly.
Would you know if my second item is in the plan for BT3 or recognized as a bug for resolution?
Many thanks for all your contributions on the forum.

an integrated update script. one that will update aircrack and drivers and all the basic parts of BT from a central repository. or even the ability to use slackware modules or some such.

BackTrack 3 in the oven!
Max, Martin and I have started working on BackTrack 3....and boy...it's sexy. I know I've said this before about BackTrack 2...but really....it's sexy...sexier than ever before.
New shiny kernel, new patched wifi drivers, compiz working out of the box (so we can all pwn like r0ckstarz). We are planning on new public repositories for BT3 - for better support for updates and HD installs.
We still don't have an ETA for BT3...but one thing is for sure - it will be worth the wait! More info about BT3 dev to follow in the next few weeks.

Yeah, all im saying is it would be nice if that was integrated into BT3 and im not just talking about that in particular. Having a general update tool and possibly the ability to use RPM's or something similar to update would improve the customization options and the longevity of each release.
for instance ive searched through the forums for bugs concerning the Alfa card and the issues im having. havnt found anything finally found a driver update in your aircrack post but that still hasnt resolved the issue im utterly clueless as to how to fix it but having an automated update script would help in that instance or if someone boots off of a cd and has an ati card the could run the script and it would auto dl the ati driver set or something like that. im just saying it would be useful.

i know wesmagyar for every copy of BT downloaded bt crew can send out the boys lol. You can put your feet up and they can set you up, keep you updated and all that. Maybe even do your pentesting. DUDE have you noticed how quick things change?? Its a FREE livecd. Your last post is like me saying "er can you add voice recognition to BT3?? It might be helpful to me so I can shout PENTEST to my pc and it does it" lol
And have you ever thought how hard it must be to get everything working on every computer. Its impossible you will always have some glitches here and there. plus i doubt they have more than 10 laptops to test and I don't know how many people here tested?? but there are shit loads of diffrents makes of hardware. and google slapt-get :D
Barry

Just do a slapt-get --install windows. Wait a week and you'll have every exploit known to man installed.

10-18-2007, 10:17 AM
well shoot if they can get the fancy desktop manager going it cant be to hard to get the package manager that slackware uses integrated. its not me being lazy i got my livecd working pretty well and i did all the footwork to get stuff work. im only having one problem with it. but iregardless asking for a feature isnt that big of a deal i mean shoot your acting like im asking them to automate everything for me. im just asking for help with keeping stuff updated. quite a few people have made scripts and the like that are on the forums it wouldnt be to hard to incorporate those into the new livecd.
and if its so easy to get slapt-get integrated into it why cant they just include it? i dont know about you but im rather poor and i didnt have access to a CD-RW or a DVD-RW untill rather recently and i just now got a computer that can boot from a usb. so for some people it would enable them to use the distro alot easier if these things where integrated..

Well there are 250+ manuals you could do just for starters :D and that's just BT2
Now in BT3 there will be lots more with all the extras, so there is likely to be another 50-100 to do. :D
I'm sure the websites that most of the tools come from would appreciate the use of them too.:D
So do you think you could have that lot done by wednesday at the latest:D
-=~Aquired~=-

Mh I thought for example in the settings or just any single word which is english in german. I also thought there will be enough to translate that you could say "hey we have german translation for the backtrack, too". I dont know if it´s possible or suggestive it was just an offer from me to help.#
edit:
I first just thought only the system but if you can translate the most used tools also easily
I add this to my offer.
