Hey, I mentioned this is another thread in the Newbie area but I thought I would go ahead and make it a feature request.

Slax has a boot cd that you can boot from and then boot from USB if the BIOS doesn't support usb booting (like MacBooks ;) ) but it only works with Slax.

I don't know how difficult this would be but I'm sure it would be nice if BackTrack had something similar and I don't know how complex that would be but I figured I would go ahead and through it out there.

I'm more than willing to help work on it if someone wants to point me in a direction to start with.

I am pretty sure that if you look in the boot folder on the cd you will find instructions on doing just that.

I checked the boot directory of the BackTrack Live CD and didn't find anything like that. All I found remotely similar is the bootinst.sh which just makes a usb stick bootable. Is there something I'm just not seeing?

If you look in the dos directory there are instructions on booting from a dos disk available from freedos.org

There are disks available that have usb drivers as well.

Plug your prepared usb stick in and boot with your bt cd. At the boot prompt type

"bt nocd"

It will find your usb stick and run off it. I have a couple of older computers and one newer laptop that won't boot from a bt usb stick. This works with all of them.

Good Luck

But then

There's always more than one way to skin a cat.
