Yes, BT3 is in development.
No, we haven't stopped developing BT because of strange laws - they don't apply to us.
No, we don't have an ETA yet...we're all working haaaaaaaard.

BUT, check this:

Nothing to say ..... MARVELOUS............

awesome job as usual........

Thx for all crew efforts, and maybe we can hope a second "testing reliz " ????

i can't wait it because the first one was totally stable for me and i can bet the next one will be perfect..........as the first one (core for drivers) was really a stable work.......

only downside? There's going to be more questions on getting beryl properly configured than cracking wep keys :p

beryl is only a visual gadget for me........

i don't need it because bt is only for me a pentesting reliz...........

Hmmm..... cant help noticing the VMWare server running......

Kind of have to wonder if any of my work on it has led to it being on there.

Would be cool if it was a contribution I made to the community that has also led to it being a part of the new BT3

But then it is probably just my ego getting the better of me.

Compiz won't be added to the code BT3 cd, but will be offered on a DVD (?) version or as optional modules for download.

Vmware 6.0.1 installs perfectly on the new kernel, no any-any patches required. This is DEFINITELY the most stable and impressive version of BT yet to come out...w00t!

Is there anyway you could make a version that installs like a normal distro? If you could make it so it installs like ubuntu or mandriva or windows it would save a lot of questions on how to install to the hard drive and dual boot etc. Thanks!

When, and only when it's ready.

You can be sure that it will be announced on the forums, when it is ready, and not until then.

There are also threads on the forum where the admins have implicitly stated to not ask this question.

Vid was OK but where's the technological leaps?? No compiz??? :D must still be sorting things out.

I liked that new tool wifizoo. Looks very intresting :D downloading a copy now. And it looks like that new kernel does the job. How have they configured the kernel?? with dual core support? Or maybe they are going to use several kernels for choice?

I for one am really excited about the coming release of backtrack three.

Also, my appreciation goes to you guys working hard at making it come-to-be. I know that you will end up with something that the community love to explore and use.

And for the many people out there who haven't thought to do so... Donations are what keeps things ticking over. So GO AHEAD, you'll be adding your own help to the scene.

lol i live in a big wifi van ....... so yes you re not alone .......

when somebody state unix was not popular...... well it depends if you are a basic user of computer or if you are a pro......

pros use nix..... even microsoft don't trust their own products (microsoft site was long time served by an apache server and not a iis....)

if you love stability ..... you use nix .........

if you need to be spoonfeeded in all you want to do with no ability of controlling what is doing your box ..... just install shity windows ............

this only my opinion and is not everybody mind..........

the image is indeed impressive. regarding all the things like: make it easier to install, like windows, i have to say i disagree on this. this is no toy, and obviously not every kiddie should be able to boot it in and have it just running with 2 clicks, and have no idea what is he doing, i mean , cmon, this tool is for people who know what they are doing, not for home users, or kids.

my 2 3 4 5 cents ...

Ive been using UNIX since 1998 in my house, so why not home users?

yeah, you're right. everyone should be an expert before using this program....

anybody can boot and use this, its quite easy. i see nothing wrong with the younger crowd and "home" users using this program. I wish i would have stuck with it more when i was younger. you learn by doing. hack to learn.

on a positive note, i'm looking forward to using the new release!

Why shouldn't home user's benefit from using some-thing a hell of a lot more robust than windows?

Most kid's wouldn't even know how to even boot the CD!

Guys wondering if I'm missing something. On the teaser video the metasploit smb_relay exploit after launching the exploit, in the metasploit shell looks like something happens that gives the attacker a session, but I didn't see anymore interaction after launching the exploit? Am I missing something?

The teaser does leave out some of the requirements to make the exploits and cracks work, like user interaction and experiences time elapses

Obviously, they have done this to discourage script-kiddies, as they will acquire inflated self-esteem and false hope created by the teaser, only to have it destroyed when they realize that hacking (or in this case, cracking) is an art. :)

What age defines kid? I'm 16 and have been "playing" with the backtrack distros for about a year and a half. I know that you said "most", but I'm always curious: Do I know more than a lot of other "kids".

Sorry, I guess that after a while you begin to assume that everyone knows what you know. :)

I'm afraid that I fail to comprehend your statement. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the comment in relative conversations, but how does this apply to me. If you intended this as a joke with me, then I apologize for asking you to explain it; however if it was a joke at me, then please elaborate.

I'm sorry if I was unclear in my post, I was merely attempting to question the stereotype placed on young individuals. If your statement was directed towards me in a demeaning tone, as I am believing, then you have only furthered this stereotype into the population.

Again, I apologize if this was a joke as it is probably to late for me to create judicious thoughts.

Please Respond.

Awesome work people:)
Ii've been trying to shift to Linux for my daily use. Stuff like this is an added attraction.:D

One thing more.
I've read about your stand on multi-channel support in BT.
Still, I'd like to ask..considerng almost every motherboard nowadays comes with 5.1 or better sound card installed..wont it be possible to include multi-channel support in BT3?
Some people here have speakers worth 100 of $s lying unutilised on BT.
(WHere'll I use multi-channel..well..games, if I manage to run them. Games are the only reason that I still have WinXP
and
Movie DVDs.They do have real multi-channel sound):o

Your post would be better directed at the Feature Requests section, although I'm sure if you searched first you'd find this question has already been asked and answered.

Please consider the primary use of BT.
And then consider the relative importance of big speakers and surround sound, let alone games and movies.

I'm sure you will eventually reach the conclusion that a network penetration testing livecd is not really the platform of choice for playing games and watching movies - in stereo or surround sound ;)
