Hi davehardy20! I've my EEEPC since about 3 weeks, my RJ45 network card is an Atheros type but unluckily the other one is "only" a Ralink 2860...

I believe the ASUS 1000HE is a great netbook to have. I am very happy with the battery life on it, and you can always upgrade to a 10cell which will increase the life-span. Plus it is very cheap. The only draw back I feel it has, is that the speed is sorta OK, could be faster... But once we see netbooks with LED screens, then we will start to see the power of the computer coming back. XD

And by the way, BT4 Pre-Final works flawlessly now on my 1000HE. Just had to do that modprobe fatal fix, and everything else was OK.

similar results: it's a nice little box. it just needs some attention
the ubiquity installer works cleanly.i've had to fix the modprobe/init splash issues on every box i've put b|t4pre on. eeepc1000 non-related issue.

b|t4 pre fixes the mousepad error. honestly, using the mousepad tablet is still totally fiddly on the eepc1000 with such a small screen. the $30 or so to buy a nano receiver wireless mouse is very worthwhile. the ra-link internal wifi card's range is pretty disappointing. but if you do an hd install, the eepc1000 has 2 open usb slots for an alfa, and one left for your nano receiver. very nice.

in retrospect, being an ifone3g user ; i should have bought the eeepc model capable of bluetooth for tethering connectivity method. not b|t related scope of discussion though. easy workarounds are available anyway.

it's still a very nice little netbook for the money, and functions perfectly as a "cute little pentest/attack vector terminal" which is more or less what it is. just don't throw away your alfa, the ra-link internal is pretty disappointing. it is injection capable;if you are about 6 feet away (unobstructed) from your target access point. basically, the ra0 interface is pretty worthless. wicd will usually just hang on authentication stage; even with the wicd/wpa-psk router key issue already addressed.

i expected many more issues out of a netbook priced as it is. i'm very pleasantly suprised with it the ra-link is my only (valid) major complaint for someone not ready to just connect an alfa 500mw to it and be done with using ra0.
