Anyone got the mic to work in recmydesktop

I started using recordmydesktop with ubuntu and googled how to get the mic to work for days then I just stopped because there was nothing working for me. Then I got it for backtrack 3 and backtrack 4 and googled for days and still nothing so I'm fed up with googling this topic. I just decided to post it so if anyone could help point me in the right direction or even help me out it would be great and I'm pretty sure others probably need this as much as i do.

Does it work full stop ??

Test your mic with the following command

arecord test.wav

And play the output

Also as everybody keeps repeating, no ones a mind reader so if you would like help debugging stuff please include as much info a possible. For eg Hardware info

Thanks just for that little hint I figured it out i had to install the latest alsa driver, and install skype to figure out my recording device's name.
