Asus Keyboard won't make |

My asus g51vx won't make a | key, I've used an external and that works fine but obviously kills the point of having a laptop. Any ideas? I've already tried switching the layouts. Oh yeah, when I shift hit the key that normally makes the | I get a > sign. Thanks in advance.
