The first two can be done just by writing your own, one line shell script and dropping it on your desktop...

Code:
#!/bin/bash
poweroff
Code:
#!/bin/bash
/etc/init.d/wicd start

And the others can be done the same way you would do it in Ubuntu.

Anyway, real men use fluxbox (when they deign to use a GUI at all).

LUXURY! We should make them write their own Curses based UI.

In assembly.

With needles to write to the harddrive.

And butterflies.

I'm done.

I know these are options however when you're doing a job and time is limited would you rather be spending time typing in code to make your OS function? Or use time in a more productive fashion?

I have to give HUGE kudos to the guys at Backtrack for making video work whereas other distros really fall down on the job.

Puppy's xconfig wizard is pretty cool though.

Cheers!

This thread really has hit it's end.
As is stated if one absolutely needs a "button" to shut down" or "start wicd" example scripting options have been given.
If anyone feels they have a better solution/answer then send me a PM
and I can add it to this thread if needed.

Furthermore, there are specific stealth reason for us not wanting any services to start on boot such as preventing automatic connection to a clients wifi and alerting them to the test, to give one example. If you cant be bothered to type
/etc/init.d/networking start then I suggest you check out a very nice distro called windows.
