Linux bt 2.6.29.4 #3 SMP Mon May 25 18:50:05 EDT 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

The "KDE Help Center" when first started will offer to "Build Search Indexes" for the Help Entries.
This will fail if "htdig" is not installed. BT4 should ship with htdig already working, BT3 had the same issue.

To fix it yourself simply use the "Synaptic Package Manager" to install "htdig" prior to using the Indexer.

This will give these warnings and messages:

...
"Warning: unknown locale!"
...
htdig: Errors to take note of:
Unknown host or unable to contact server: help://kregexpeditor/index.docbook Ref: file:///root/.kde3/share/apps/khelpcenter/index/kde_application_manuals.tmp/index.html
...
Finished successfully.

Now everything works,

After using BT3 successfully on my NC10 for quite a while I decided to dual boot my new work Vostro 1720 laptop to BT4/XP specifically to use the VoIP tools.

Everything set up well and all devices were working properly for about a week
I sorted the lack of keyboard with the 18042.reset and i8042.nomux commands and all was well.

After a while I updated BT4 and upgraded to the Nvidia drivers and I thought had a stable system. Then out of the blue every time I use windows the grub menu is lost on the next boot! It shows a flash of "Grub loading stage 1.5" and then reboots.

I have taken to leaving a grub boot cd in the drive and this will boot me to a basic grub front end, At this point the I then edit the boot menu to give me a keyboard once it boots.

Having booted to backtrack I then Sudo grub, go to Root (HD0,4) and finally setup (hd0) and reboot. From this point it is fine until I next boot windows where after the windows session the grub menu is missing again :(

If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful to hear them !

Where is 2.6.30.5? (apt-get update doesnt find it)

Hi there,

/etc/issue shows that i am running: "BackTrack 4 Beta \n \l"
uname -a shows the string: Linux bt 2.6.28.1 #2 SMP Wed Feb 4 21:50:02 EST 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

I am trying to update my kernel to 2.6.30.5 however when I type: apt-get update i was getting an error about one of the keys being missing. I have added the key, and no longer get that error. For the record, I have the following keys:

2004-09-12 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key
2004-12-30 Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key
2008-07-27 BackTrack Development Team
2009-03-20 Launchpad PPA for KDE3.5 Maintainers
2009-01-22 Launchpad PPA for Timothy Pearson

Anyway, when I type: apt-get update it reads the package lists with no errors, then I type: apt-get install -d linux-image but it gives me the message that linux-image is already the newest version. I check using: uname -r and it shows that the kernel is still: 2.6.28.1

It seems that apt-get update is not receiving the list with the location of the newer kernel, and therefore not downloading it into /var/cache/apt/archives/

Could anyone shed some light. Can I manually (wget) download the linux-image-2.6.30.5_2.6.30.5-10.00.Custom_i386.deb file(s) and then install them from thereon?

Thanks in advanced.
