Default Rapid7 has acquired Metasploit

Congratulations to HDM & team on this achievement. My condolences to the FLOSS community.

And yep, I also read "Metasploit will remain open source ... blah blah".

Interesting. Thanks for the reference prowl3r. I wonder if this means that Rapid7 will be attempting to compete with other exploitation products such as CANVAS and Core Impact.

Smart analysis, as usual. I wonder why we don't have more members with your profile here -instead of so many flat electroencephalogram newcomers-. No pun intended.

Thanks for the kind words prowl3r. Regards some of the others on the forum, I think there are a few who are as smart or smarter than myself. We are definitely better off here than at some of the other forums that deal with similar topics, although I'm always hoping we can make things better - to give the forum an even more professional feel than it already has.

Absolutely. Most seniors and many juniors here are smart guys (and certainly smarter than myself). However, I've seen an increasing proportion of new members who just prefer not to think or search stuff but to ask everything instead, showing no good manners at all. It's not a matter of knowledge, I'm talking about attitude.

Whilst it is true that we are better than other forums, we also seem to be a sort of honeypot for idiots out there (maybe due to the nature of our contents?).

I'd say it's the elitist thing actually. Sure I haven't been here for long, though I could point out how long I lurked for, but there are other sites I've been on which have deteriorated quite quickly - look at slashdot when it reached the million user mark (though there were always trolls there). There are other sites, and other nicknames for me, and I can honestly say that there is an influx of this sort of thing, this sort of attitude.

Either one weathers the storm and just filters people by habit, or one goes insane.

I think I've gone with insane

Yes, I know what you mean about the attitude thing. Disrespectful and/or lazy attitudes like that are one of the few things that really annoy me on the forum here.

I know that I worked really hard to gain the knowledge I have - there was a lot of reading a lot of thinking and a lot of trial and error. A lot of cost and time too, when taking my education and training into account. My learning was also self directed and I have solved the vast majority of my own problems (I'll work at something for weeks before I ask someone else for help).

So when someone comes here, immediately asks for a step by step tutorial on how to do something simple without trying it themselves first, and can't even put in the effort to think about how to best phrase their question, or even write that request in decent English (using SMS speak, broken grammar, no capitalisation, etc), I get pretty frustrated. That sort of thing comes off as incredibly lazy and lacking in initiative, and shows no respect towards the standards of the forum and towards the people who will actually be trying to respond to the post.

If there are enough of those type of posts it also drags the standard of the whole forum down.

Yes I agree, we certainly are. I think the best way to discourage all of the lazy ones is to maintain the no spoonfeeding rule, that way hopefully only the ones who are willing to put in the effort will have the perseverence to stick around, and the others will see it as too hard and will give up. Of course its porbably not going to be quite that simple...

Speak of the devil. Here's one of those troublesome users I was talking about now!

Actually, you have come a very long way since you started here a number of months ago. People don't normally improve so much so fast. Keep it up.
