When I'm booted in Windows 7 my computer runs relatively cool...meaning, unless I am using up a lot resources the laptop stays pretty cool near the fan exhaust, and the fan runs on low
If I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS or Backtrack 4 Pre-Final my laptop (HP DV4 1120US) runs hot, and the fan blows on high the whole time. This happens from the time it boots up. Any suggestions on how to get it to run cooler? Its weird because I was under the impression it took quite a bit less resources to run Ubuntu or Backtrack. I just don't want to burn up any components...

Its probably the settings to do with acpi/pm and speedsteps or whichever technology you have.
It will not burn the laptop if its running under high fan levels unless you put the laptop in an area where the ambient temperature is warm. |
