If you're a Linux noob, read this thread

Many people who are new to BackTrack 2 are also new to Linux. Learning BT2 while simultaneously learning Linux can be a daunting task. It can be damn near impossible if you want to learn BT2 without learning Linux (and believe me, some people try).

If you're new to Linux, this thread is designed to provide you with some references to material that can help you learn Linux.

It is important to recognize that while the basics of most Linux flavors are the same, there are some unique differences. So your first lesson is learning that BT2 is based upon Slax, which is based upon Slackware. The more you learn about Slackware Linux, the better you'll be able to manipulate BT2 to do what you want it to do. Slackware Linux Basics is a good overview to start with.

I encourage others to add to this thread. Again, this thread is designed to help Linux noobs understand Slackware/Slax/BT2 Linux, to more fully use and understand the specific tools within BT2.

This is the EXACT link I bookmarked 3 months ago to learn Linux. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!. It covers it ALL. I might want to go over it again to figure out my lid close problem I posted a few days ago huh?

Wow thanks, coincidentally I'm planning to start a slackware server (burned the iso's already) this summer on a spare comp just to learn some linux and networking... This will definately help out a lot...
