modprobe works and modinfo shows the correct version!
Sometimes the Ath0 interface gets "stuck". To unstick it..and hopefully this works in your case...try this...

2. wlanconfig ath0 destroy
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode managed (WHEN YOU TYPE THIS COMMAND,THE NEXT LINE ON YOUR SCREEN SAYS ath0 JUST LIKE THE LINE BELOW THIS ONE!...DO NOT TYPE ath0 IN A NEW COMMAND LINE!!!)
ath0
ifconfig ath0 up


Hopefully this will get it working. Please let me know if it worked or not.

Thats quite an odd problem you have g00dca7.

I take it you tried removing your card and re-inserting it back in as well huh?

hehe no because its built-in... no pcmcia. its a acer 3680 with built in Wlan device

damn i dont know whats the problem is... is installed the 0.9 version from aircrack you posted to crack WPA2 ap's. and after i installed the ath0 device was missing... the crazy thing is what the hell has aircrack to do with madwifi drivers??

info.: i using the BT installed version with the standard kernel drom the cd. The removing of the modules worked and reinstalling works but the ath0 device is still missing and i cant add it with wlanconfig ath0 create...

I can't think of anything else to help you. I'm very sorry. Maybe having the built in card is the problem? Only one last desperate suggestion....I know your not going to like it.....

 delete your Linux partitions....and reload BT2 on your HD.


Sorry..but its the only other thing I can think of to remedy this problem. I admit..I'm just as lost as your are.

I've a problem to my pci wlan card for use new madwifi driver.I download from:

http://snapshots.madwifi.org/

where it is madwifi-trunk-current.tar driver.The pb is when turn into monitor mode the mac address change to ex : 06:11:22:33:44:55 and i chane to managed mode it also same.After reboot its become normal.But when uninstall that driver and using the others driver its work fine the mac address become 00:11:22:33:44:55.But the injection from the 2 drivers work fine.

ohh damn you had the same idea i was thinking about ( noo pls not... the shit is that all time i will install a new aircrack version i have to fear that my linux version is killing my ath0 device. Did i need a new version to crack WPA2 AP's? or did the build in BT version work?

But big thx. exploitz for the help... tell me if you have another idea but i think its the only way too. And this after i copied my new 92MB wordlist

YEAH it works again. after i halted and removed my power cable the ath0 device was found... but when i catch data with airodump and connect with a laptop to the the AP and try to crack the key it get an error... NO valid WPA handshakes found... and on the right side is nothing to found about WPA... can someone tell me where i can found a new aircrack version over svn...

i tried the new aircrack version svn/trunk and it works great i had some trouble with getting a WPA handshake but now it works. Thank you very much
